THIS AND THAT-POSTCARDS AND PHOTOS COVERING MORE THAN A CENTURY.

Ancient History was once young, and as such we are presenting various cards; photos and "goonies" that helped a Utah Governor at one time. Some of them have the needed notes by them, such as the Alumni Mid-Year Ball of Nephi High. Not sure who it was sent to, but has various names on the back which include Victor Jones of Nephi. The old high school is used as a County "Complex" and now 100 years old, even though a "Complex" School Board said it was too old a half century ago. According to Cotton Rosser, their was only one real cowboy when interviewed in New York, and to the newcomers, Thermoid was an important employer during and after World War Two, and a whistle that we may be late for school. The 1959 photo reveals a kid who just got away with something and 64 years later, he still pulls pranks, but just older and no longer able to roll down the school concrete stairs. During one of the yearly "Alma Jones Treks", one of our caravan of trucks got stuck, so a herd of Jones' had to change the course of the Colorado to get out. And yes, New Years Eve was the time I would shave my beard and head while listening to 8 tracks and trying to understand the meaning of "BEER-Helping Ugly People Have Sex Since 1862". I had two kids, so may have drank beer twice in my life!

"ONE LESS FORTUNATE" A REAL LIFE EVENT WRITTEN BY TEN YEAR OLD JUSTIN WM. JONES

Years ago, in raising two young sons, I thought it was worthwhile to not only teach them the tradition of a Jolly fat man named Santa who miraculously brought them free gifts at Christmas time. In addition, they were taught of the life of Jesus the Christ and the Christmas miracles he brought to the world 2,000 years ago; today and the future. Through contacts at the State Mental Hospital in Provo, we were able to make contact with a lifetime patient there and had the opportunity to help play the role of Santa and wrap appropriate gifts for him and traveled there to meet "John" and present him with gifts as a Christ-like gesture, which we continued for a few years with others patients. Back then, the PTA did not allow males to be a member of the PTA, so this was our way of fighting their system, and did so in a Christ-like manner. Each gift was meticulously wrapped and some required a variety of layers to bring more excitement to the patient, and to us, the Nephi Jones Boys! We hope all can read what ten year old Justin Jones wrote of his adventure, which he did on his own and submitted it to his 4th grade school teacher. The teacher sent it to the National PTA and this bright kid won National actuations. It is being submitted now as the pencil markings are wearing off and in memory of "John" and Justin- who passed away at age 38 via Depression, the unheralded death sentence that is seldom spoke of, as government's and counseling folks make a lot of money maintaining the cause is alcohol and drugs. To this personal and professional father, those are only a pathway to escape Depression.

A GOOD REST HOME CONSISTS OF... GREAT PEOPLE

Several years ago I had the opportunity to provide volunteer help at a Heber City, Utah Rest Home. Each Saturday, I looked forward to a day of leisure and enjoy my time with older people that once were young. Kind of like all of us, who were once young and given a chance to make a life of our own here on earth. To spend a day each week with people who have done it all was a great lesson for me. I would assist staff in helping residents to the spacious front room and sing various songs that we all knew. I can't sing or lead, but these kind folks didn't seem to mind. We then loaded up on a special equipped transport bus and go to various places or functions in the area. All people liked to top of  the leisure drive with an ice cream cone, and regardless of the clean up assignment, we had everlasting fun. After helping with lunch, I would then wander about with Lassie(the sidekick house dog) and when the residents had a family visitor, that is when I would butt in and interview them, then publish and print their life history and attach it to the doors of each resident with the title bearing "GET TO KNOW YOUR NEGHBOR".  Today, we present five of the people of years ago. Sorry about the typos. I am still in Beginning Type!
