ALBERTA BLACKETT JONES- A STRONG BUT LOVING MOTHER

All of the children of Vic and Alberta passed their earthly assignments and did so in a remarkable manner. They all grew up in the small home on the southeast corner of Main and 6th North in Nephi. She taught her kids good education at home, and all had their assignments' at home with the sheep and chickens and then when the boys came along, each one of them had there duties as well. And they all pitched in to help Vic's parents on their Nortonville, Utah farm. The daughters were intrigued with the importance of educations and followed a pursuit in that field of work. Richard was the oldest boy and liked to figure out how to keep their animal's in good health, so he got his start in following Spin Mac around to learn from his "Farm Doc" ways. A lot of those tricks did work well and Richard became an excellent Veterinary in Cache Valley, and was proud to do his own farming with his Shire horses. Son Gordon kept his farming instincts and passed them on to his kids, but also knew how to build rock solid homes. Prior to the death of Alberta, I had the opportunity to visit her at an unnamed hospital in Salt Lake. I felt bad for her as she was so cold she was shivering and not able to get anyone to help her, even after I asked. I went to where they kept extra blankets and brought one to her and stayed with her. I enjoyed my one on time with her. And son Sherm Jones was a delightful man that lived longer than most would think and always had that wide grin and good friends with Cotton Rosser when he came to town. There will be a time when we will all meet Vic, Alberta, Melba, Lenora, Barbara, Mildred, Darlene, Richard, Gordon and Sherm. All with Angelic Wings. In the birthday photo, Alberta is having her 6th BD Birthday Party in 1913.

BREAKING NEWS-LISA BLACKET DOING DANCING FANTASY

You may have already heard the rumors at Ray's Cafe; Snak Shack; Bobs Barber Shop or at The Serv, so let me try to bring some evidence to the surface. In the days of Grandma saying "Truth is always in the Pudding", but now a days they rely on more evidence, so we got the people that danced the truth and did it all well, and proof that Lisa Blackett is a Heroine of Hero's of Nephi, that we may have never given credit to, so we will today. Many of the listed little sweetheart's or grown up and we hope their loved ones pay tribute to those lucky enough to have their own Fantasy come true. Some of them danced so well, they have ascended to the Heavenly Clouds with Angelic Wings to enlighten and delight others, as they did during their mortal days on earth. When you get a moment, send a hand written note to Lisa, in the mail and give thanks to a local gal who has done much to bring glee to all of us. I still recall how much my mother called on Lisa to perform for the elderly when the Colonial Manor was the resting home for those folks that were older, but still humans that enjoyed free entertainment. A genuine thanks cousin, and yes, Nephi, Martha and Huck Jackson stands on high and proud of what you have done in a kind way for others in your hometown.

PHOTO OF WM. JONES JUST BEFORE HE DIED IN 1947 AT AGE 88

This is a photo of William Jones of Nephi, just before his death in 1947. He is the son of Edward and Martha Jackson Jones of Nephi, Utah. He married Elizabeth Tolley in 1885, which was a weeks travel to the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. In her journal, Liz reported the two weeks traveling in a horse and buggy was a "very delightful" trip. Together, they had bought most of the land when the Norton brothers gave it up as they were not used to the hard work. The Jones and Tolley family farmed it for several years and built two irrigation ponds, that are still visible from the hazardous freeway, cutting through some of the best farming ground around as well as the pure water from Mt. Nebo. Their children were Wm Loray (who died at four); Erma Jones Garrett; Eddie(who died three weeks later). Will Jones was then called on an LDS Mission back to the British Isles where his father and mother were born. Will's wife- Liz was pregnant with Vic Jones, but supported the "Calling From God" and left the Ranch to Will's brother-Edward(the second) and other great people of Nortonville. Wm. was then off to jolly ole England, without purse, but did take a small Book of Mormon and two Journals with him. He would often stay with family members that remained in the British Isles-who also fetched food and bed for he and Elder McPherson from Nephi. Liz Jones moved in with her mother-Sarah Warren Tolley, which house is still standing by the old Hollow on Nephi Main Street, until Vic was born in 1893. When William returned from his mission, and took up ranching again in Nortonville, along came Dell, Pearl(Ockey), Grant, Alma, Bert and Norma(Kay). To us Jones kids, we loved and cherished any time we could visit our Uncles and Aunts and their kids and the kids children, as Alma and LaVon didn't hook up their wedding wagon til later in life, so the Jones kids came along about every ten months when Alma, the Cash man-came home from World War Two. Blame it on the good water of Nortonville. The photo shows Wm. Jones standing by the Jones Family home on 7th North and Main, standing by the wooden fence surrounding the once quite and peaceful homestead, waiting for the Mailman, who came twice a day to Deliver De Letter De Sooner De Better.

PHOTO OF THE NEPHI ALMA & LAVON HARRIS JONES FAMILY OF 40 PLUS YEARS AGO

I am not sure of who they all are, so hopefully some of my siblings will add them. I do know it was around Christmas time and after Weston, Hal and Gary were re-directed to join their American Brothers to serve in some far off Country called Nam, which they didn't teach us about in School, but that was Par for the Course of Lessons For Life we didn't know much about, but we pretended we knew more than our great folks. Our Dad was an Army Medic Veteran, but said their were more soldiers  killed or hurt during training when Bombers were dropping sacks of flour on their own comrades, while mothers and kids were hungry at home. Both folks knew the Potential of losing sons and brothers as Uncle Vic Jones got his hip shot up during World War One and another brother-Uncle Dell Jones would see the same catastrophic injuries in "The War To End All World Wars" in World War One as did LaVon's brothers Uncle Ren and Uncle Vic Harris, both Nephi Boys who answered the Call of Duty. And there was a time when they had two grandsons join up and one still serving. When does General Evil quit? Perhaps it is when we all get along with our neighbors. You know, the ones who mix peas with corn!!! What is this world coming to?

LIKE WHO YOU LOVE AND LOVE WHO YOU LIKE-NEW RULES ON MARRIAGE

Don't panic-the new rule is just a personal one. But it only makes sense that all folks that have a hankering to get hitched, please follow my personal views on marriage. It wont hurt any of you to at least give it a read and thought before that Grateful or Fateful day! Read it again and again, at least while I put an article in a paper that will accept my advertisement. I am presently searching for my next future Ex-wife! In addition to the Like and Love clause, there is just one more which I hereby sort of declare. According to the New Jones Alamac on Marriage, if you have been betrothed to the same one or tother(Jones word) for two decades, you are allowed to start all over again, and announce that you are allowed to send out invitations to any and all family and friends that you are presently accepting money(US only) and or gifts for your second Honeymoon to Nortonville, where Jakoye's Great-Great-Great Grandfather-Nephi Jackson was quoted as saying "This is beautiful and a Hell of a lot better than pulling that Dam Handcart for 1300 miles". Nephi's sister-Martha then slapped him silly and wrote it down! If you don't like this great couple, save your expensive eggs to throw at...well.... never mind.

BE SURE TO CLEAN UP YOUR STREET IN NEPHI CITY

Either this week or last, I read in our local paper-The Times News, that all citizens ought to be keeping junk cars and trucks off  City Streets. I can't remember the period of time they can be temporarily park there, but I think horse sense will whisper to all of us that it is sooner than a year, and garbage trucks and the Mail Carriers may be heard to say "Hell Yes". And if you drive along Highway 91 to the North toward Mona, that situation has occurred since Noah built the Ark....well almost. It is also suggested that we keep any vacant lots up to what we used to do when Nephi was a small Rural City where we all chipped in together to keep it a beautiful town. Not anymore, but perhaps we can put a voluntary spirit back in place, even for the move ins that may like junk. And sometimes it is good to get brain damage, as I thought yesterday was Saturday-a work day. We set out to help a neighbor who didn't have the motating lawnmower to do their lawns and weeds so we went gun ho on theirs and they had a thankful heart to say the least. But that wasn't enough! We noticed how  a lot of dirt, dust and debris, causing potential problems and even liability, so we drove our giant HEMI around to the front and started to fill that up along Main Street and between 600 North, but to the ire of vehicles in a hurry to speed up 700 North. The photo below will show our piled up truck. And at the corner, which belongs to Nephi City, we pulled up the illegally placed campaign sign. I personally or professionally know not the name of the candidate running for the Utah Attorney General's office. In the past, it is paid City workers that pull them up, and remember the City folks are paid by Taxpayers, so one thought was to ask the candidate to fork over some money to a noble cause such as the Children's Justice Center. For me, one vote may or may not make a difference, but that was enough to vote for somebody else. The candidate should have enough integrity to tell his paid or volunteer staff where a sign can and can't be placed. Okay,  okay, I am about to say Amen. The last grievance is the debris in the gutter of Main Street, which is a State Road. What it the world do I do with it? The last time I cleaned it up along Main Street was about four years ago, and don't think it has been cleaned up since. Perhaps, just perhaps, the same guy who convinced me to change parties to Republican can ask the Governor if he wants it. I had previously heard him speak and wasn't impressed how he wanted to build more subdivisions in Rural Utah, so he is another no-no vote for this Trump Republican. Taking it out to the Junkyard would cost a kidney and only have one left and same with other body thing a ma jigs! And one PS. I am just a plain old Joe Citizen, but thumbs up to the Sheriff's Deputy who pulled over 3 vehicles for traffic violations' on the street, helping out Nephi Police. I kept an eye on them in case he needed a back up, but as I have a gimp in my gallop, I was liken unto the waste I was picking up!
