WE HAVE PICTORIAL PROOF OF TWO OF THE THREE NEPHITES

Although many followers of Jesus do not believe Christ gave continued life on earth to John the Beloved til the Savior returns, but many do. And many Mormons or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints believe that after the crucifixon of Christ on the Cross in the Middle East, he was resurrected and proceeded to come to the land that eventually became the America's. Christ visited the people that was here as recorded in the Book of Mormon. Although this writer is a sinner of the rules of the LDS, I am a firm believer in that the Book of Mormon is a written history like the New Testament of the Bible. After teaching and preaching to the people of the Americas and prior to his departure back to God, he felt very proud of his twelve disciples or Apostles here and three of those followers chose to remain on earth like John the Beloved and could Tare with no physical harm coming to them. As such, there have been many books and writings of sightings of the "Three Nephites" reporting the good and noble deeds they are doing until Jesus the Christ returns. If one could establish the facts, their just may be more people to offer their  "sightings" of Big Foot or "Sasquatch". Once again, this writer believes that John the Beloved and The Three Nephites or helping with good deeds on earth, but today we write of the sightings of "The Two Nephites"'. Elder Howarth is in the white shirt, and on a LDS Mission in Alaska. The taller guy is Gary B Jones of Nephi. They are distant cousins as their great-great grandfather is Edward Jones who was an arriving Mormon Pioneer to Nephi in 1852. Elder Horwath's grandparents are Mark and Patty Jones of Nephi. In Alaska, Gary is know as G.B. Jones, who was an Army Ranger during the Viet Nam Era; raced the thousand mile Sled dog race known as the Iditarod; returned LDS Missionary, and a well know author, with his most recent book entitled "Whisper's of the Trail', a copy of which he presented to Elder Howarth.

I TRYED TO CONVINCE TRACY BOOTH TO BE A NEPHI COUNCIL MEMBER

While doing a little written jargon with former Nephite Tracy Booth, we commented on some of the good people around about. We both conceded that one of the best families in Utah are the Wright Family of Milford and Beaver. To many of us, rodeo folks are about the only true sports hero's we have left, other than our Veterans. Tracy compared his father in law-Elwood Jenkins to Grandpa Bill Wright. He and his wife Evelyn are the parents of  13 kids, with the sons being in the Saddle Bronc competition while the daughters help Bill run their ranches. They have experienced injuries' as well as tragedy. But their faith in each other and their affirmation of their Mormon faith continues to bind them together. As I was once on the Nephi City Council, and experienced some discontent, as some of those I sat with seemed to  do away with the rural vision of Nephi, and raise prices of property and bring train loads of people and to build and build and build with no room to have gardens. One leader maintained that Nephi had plenty of water, but  it appeared he had no real knowledge of the State or Nephi, as we are and always have been dang dry. And talking to Juab County, the Assessor felt it was their duty to raise Property Taxes now to fit the slew of people that want to live here but compute to higher wages up north. I felt like our area was on a spiral downhill. It was not just the elected officials, but "selected" people by those who appeared to just want more money for themselves or to be hired by the people and business that were brought in as that have already been done by those who were booted out.. As I was often the only one that wanted to preserve our history, culture and friendly town, I felt the burden of the older folks were being taxed to death and we were encouraged to be less open about the raises to them. Tracy and others wanted me to run for Mayor and I wanted him to run for Bishop of an LDS Ward. If I ran for Mayor, there would be little chance I could persuade the voting Council Members who seemed bound and determined for growth and to get more money, but for themselves, not the people that move in and drive like a bat out of hell and permit the heavy loaded trucks to ruin the roads and cause accidents;, by hitting the railroad tracks at high speeds. But since I like to be of service to others, I will tell Tracy Booth that I will run for a Bishop for an LDS Ward, if he will run for Nephi Mayor and lead Nephi out of the apparent dismiss of our Ruralville. But I ran in to a road block by talking to a local Stake President. It may take a while, as I like to commit sins and it just may take a year or two to repent of my wicked ways. But dang it, I like to sin. And the second road block, I guess I have to get married. I tried that once and it lasted 16 years and shy about another go at it. But perhaps I can find a weekend wife, as I  watched  a TV series recently and well, I was love stricken, and having done several Hollywood movies, most of which were as Extra, I put in a call to my former Agent. He said something like "Fat Chance" but he used some foul language I can't repeat here. I am in love with Kelly Reilly, who  plays the role of Beth Dutton but dang she is already hitched. Now what ? I need a Bitchy but Sweet wife, but one that can bring hell and fire to members who are acting up, if I am to be the Bishop

MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE PROPER USE OF A BATHROOM IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY

During my hikes in the country of North Wales, which is in the British Isles, I spent a month doing research on my mothers forefathers, being the Harris Family. That was during 1967 but spent time there on two other occasions. Much of my search of family history lead to the Church of England (C of  E), which were in the various Parish's. The C of E broke off from the Catholic Religion during the reign of King Henry the Eighth when the Pope refused to grant him a divorce during the 1500's. Perhaps.......only perhaps, divorces are now easy to come by as Kings no long chop the heads of wives off. And maybe, just maybe, the other wives prayed to have King Henry the Eighth die from Syphilis or so the legend is. One thing for sure, VD is nothing to Clap about. Now back to Harris research. Other times, I spent much time walking through the cemeteries, as many of them are in the Parish grounds. If one goes to many parts of Germany and visits their pubs, it is permittable to pretend the urinals are against the wall outside which may be called a Kneip, Bar or Tavern. In other European countries, there is often only one open restroom and used openly by men and women. If one travels to the countries in the Pacific Rim such as Viet Nam, a man or woman wanting to use a regular toilet is normally out of luck. They do have an open door policy with a large hole in a corner where you brace yourself against the wall and do your business. Learn to bring your own paper and hand wipes. The first time a gal needs to go, a gentleman may stand to protect their privacy when other folks that walked in to the corners. Same thing applies to Central and South America, and many of us, both men and women bathed in nearby waters, as they do in Mexico. Once doing the restroom routine in Mexico, some loose an interest in eating Mexican food. In England, the TP is thin like pages from Look and Life, which we used on the farm in two holers. And it is okay to call them PC;s as that stands for Public Convenience. Or call them Johns or Crappers, as it was there where John Crapper invented the water above the toilet and you  pull the chain to let more water on the roof in. And no more visits to Paris for me. Sewage glows in to Sein River. NOW  ONE LAST WARNING. IF YOU TRAVEL TO THE BEATIFUL ISLANDS OF JERSEY, SARK OR GUERNSEY IN THE CHANNEL ISLANDS, ALWAYS ASK TO GO IN A REGULAR PRIVATE RESTROOM. IF YOU DON'T HAVE WATER IN THE BOWL DON'T PULL THE CHAIN. THE ISLANDS ARE FULL OF NAZI BUNKERS AND HAVE AWFUL PUNISHMENTS BY HANGING YOU ON A WALL THAT WAS A FORTRESS AGAINST BOTH NAPOLEON AND HITLER.

THE WORD OF WISDOM-IS IT A MORMON DEGREE OR SCIENTIFIC PROOF

In 1833, Mormon Prophet Joseph Smith is said to have received a Divine Revelation about the evils of consuming strong drinks; coffee; tea; chewing and smoking tobacco. There are some writings to say that the revelation came a day after the wife of Joseph Smith complained about cleaning up the School of Prophets, where Latter day leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ gathered to discuss the organization of the restored Church. I guess if it was me to have to clean up such a place, it would be no different than a cowboy bar of yesteryear cleaning up a Spittoon. Then another story reported that in his own writing, Joseph admitted consuming wine at a wedding and at various occasions for ten years after the Word of Wisdom decree. Then again, Porter Rockwell was a trusted bodyguard to both Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, and Porter  had a continual hankering for Aunt Emma's Medicinal compound. In fact, after Brigham Young was leaving the Santa Clara home he had, his wagon driver was Porter Rockwell, who had been tipping the bottle quite heavy the night before, and Brother Brigham said something similar to "Porter, it doesn't look good for you to be drunk after me giving a speech to members about the Word of Wisdom." At the time, their was a Church owned Wine making place in St. George and ran the place as the wine was used for their religious meeting and the building is still there. In Nephi, Utah, their was another place where the Vine Bluff Cemetery now exists. When they started to bury people there, the name was modified to call it Vine Bluff Cemetery. Now adays LDS Saints are preached to take the Word of Wisdom seriously. Perhaps they did, especially in 1930, when a brilliant Scientist; Scholar and Author by the name of John Widtsoe came along and wrote a pamphlet, then a book inspiring LDS Leader's to insist on making the Word Of Wisdom a very truthful and divine word. It wasn't long before world leaders took heed to the sensibility to the pamphlet below. In addition, Widtsoe became President of the AC college(Utah State): the University of Utah, then an Apostle for the LDS church. SO BELEIVE IT OR NOT-YOUR HEALTH DEPENDS ON IT and perhaps, just perhaps, so does God.

IN SEARCH OF MORMON PIONEER EVAN HARRIS SAWMILL

A group of one of the Sawmills that was operated by Evan Harris of Nephi, Utah occurred a couple weeks ago by 13 Kin of Mormon Pioneer Evan Harris was conducted on Evans Ridge and Sawmill Canyon, both named after Evan Harris of Nephi, Utah. As a kid, my father drove his truck down to where one of the Sawmill's was, and it was fun to research the area. Most of the implement's he used has now been stolen by hikers or hunters who used the road by truck and mules who then pawned it for sale or melted it down for love of cash more than history. When the Forest Service was established in 1905, most folks didn't seem to appreciate the excessive taxes they created or the unmanaged control of the Americas of  open land. Often times, passing people, like the Federal Government, had little or no knowledge of the strong winds who ordered "Let it burn" policy in their Washington DC chairs, having no apparent knowledge like the local people, then it was reported that  Hollywood "Tree Huggers" had more cents that sense and forced the Feds to block many of the open roads and trails throughout Utah and Juab County. Years ago, Juab County ask me to help fight the Feds to testify in Federal Court to keep the forest roads open. I foresaw what the outcome would be as the County was defeated and my maps and testimony were destroyed so it couldn't be appealed. The "let it burn" is said to have killed many deer and animals; cattle; trees; hiking trailer and cabins that had been built before the Forest Service was born as well as the BLM. In  addition to the implements burned or stolen in Sawmill Canyon, Evan Harris lived and operated a Sawmill on private land below where the Ockeys had their RV park That sawmill and the historic home of the Harris has now been destroyed by fire, again we heard by local firefighters say it was another "let it burn" order from the DC Federals. That RV park has how been closed due to reported excessive control by Nephi City; State of Utah and the Federal Government over water; power lines over the beautiful area and land. In order to give perspective of all and to give thanks to the Evan Harris original family of Nephi for providing a book of the Mormon Pioneers of Nephi log homes which include bringing the logs down for the log cabin at the Nephi Pioneer Park as asked by Alice P. McCune, President of DUP and she paid tribute to him at his 1934 Funeral. As a part of my duty as a law enforcement officer, I am afraid to admit I was a party to appending the  "sawmill gang"  who illegally cut telephone poles near Moab.  All were "tree huggers".  I am a tree lover but hate those that do so with no respect.

THIS IS A 1984 PHOTO OF THREE GREAT FRIENDS OF KENT JONES

Often times, our life's on earth are just a challenge to all of us. I see it as only a test to gain the strength to get back to our real home from whence we were once sent here. During his last years on earth. I would often take 90 plus year old Ron Jones for a ride. He was a true American Cowboy and had the wisdom of such. When asked of the hardships he went through, he acknowledged them, saying that everyone has their own special challenges, and our jobs were like his western philosophy to "just hang on for eight  seconds" and it will be over. I believe that to be true and tired to teach my two sons that. And the rest of us may not ever really know the burdens each of us carry, but we need to be able to help them carry the share of their load, with out breaking our own backs. After I married, and drank of the pure water of Nephi canyon, a magical and mystical thing happened. Two toe headed kids were born and it fulfilled my purpose in life. At the time I thought it was just going to last eighteen years and all the work would be over. Well, no quite. I had enjoyed the times we spent together in sports, hiking, farming and riding horses together. As kids hit the teenage age, they pick up new friends and it seemed like I didn't have the control on them like I did before. In the photo, there should be three guys on the porch of  the Nephi Jones Family house that has been graduating kids to Adults since 1885. That photo was taken my me in 1984 after the man in the middle-Alma Jones called the night before, to see if I could help plaster the wall leading down to the homes fruit room. So I grabbed Justin and Troy and we came down to work. I am glad we did and it was the last photo I was able to take of my Dad and two sons together. Alma died two months later and it broke my heart. Then seven years ago tonight at 1030 PM, Justin took his own life, after going through deep depression. And that has been a very depressing situation for his younger brother Troy, and liken unto Troy we are trying everything we can to help him as much as we can, but there are times, at least sometimes,  we spend untold amounts of money trying to help somebody and it is not quite enough. But regardless- I feel love, friendship and everlasting devotion to those three, and many more, and to God who sends Guardian Angels to help each and every one of us.

KAY ANDERSON CARROLL WAS LAID TO REST TODAY

I only knew Kay by that name, being acquainted with her in a comparably small number of students at Juab High School in Nephi, Utah. She was the Class of 66, but if we were only a grade or two apart, we all were friends and often shared classrooms together. I often visited Kay at her home, and recalled how much she missed her husband-Douglas Carroll who had previously died. I was going through my own remorseful situation and visiting with Kay who helped me. Often times we all go through troubling times or turmoil, and it is good in a small town that we can reach out to others. Somewhere in the past I have written about the professionalism of the Anderson Funeral Home and how it has gone from fathers to sons for more than a century. When Mike Anderson took over after Miles passed, Kay was instrumental in helping to ease the caller of a family member who has passed. And luckily Mike has son-Chad who has taken over the Anderson Funeral Home and banded with Goff and made it an excellent blend of professionals in those rough times. I am not sure, but I got the impression that Kay had a voice in developing her own program. In many cases funeral's can go on and on, but this one covered all they needed to and according to my Nortonville Clock, it lasted 48 minutes. Kay is mighty proud of her two sons-Brad and Brace, and Brace has taken over many of the Juab County deaths. Watching all of the Anderson's pay respect to all those that passes is so assuring. They are God sends, and they can feel the importance of their duty. I was impressed to watch the two casket barriers bring in the earthly body of Kay. They appeared to be two young granddaughters and Mike helped train them going around corners. After the funeral, I spoke to Kay's sister-Jolene, who was the widow of Joe Christensen, another respected Mortician that worked with the Anderson's. I told Jolene I would miss her and Kay as greeters at the Nephi Hospital. They were a great blend greeting and crocheting at the same time. Kay Anderson will be missed at the hospital; fixing the hair of patrons of the funeral home and at the County Fair. But think of all the great humans that are excited to see God's precious daughter again who can now walk with no pain!

THE LDS CHURSH FIRST PUBLISHED "THE IMPROVEMENT ERA" IN 1897

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was founded in New York in 1830, with Joseph Smith as it's founder and first modern day Prophet and President. It was initially referred to as the "Mormon" Church but of recent years it is called by its official name as so noted in he introduction sentence. Although this author doesn't claim to be a "Jack Mormon", but concur with the thought of not strictly observant. I have been involved with too many "spiritual experiences" to deny the things I witnessed and beheld in such places as sailing across the "Waters of Mormon" or what is now referred to as Lake Atitlan in Central America. Mormons of the 1800's were heavily pursued by other American's that hated them in the East and in Illinois and Missouri, and there were bad Politician's even back then and none were prosecuted, even when they murdered Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum. Brigham Young was second in command of the Church and led them to Utah, which in 1847, was a forgotten land that few people wanted, but today, folks from everywhere are coming and overrunning our water and history, but that just may be another story about what many people in Utah are saying about today's bad Politicians. Any who, that is only foundational information for "the rest of the story"!  The Mormons around the world probably already know that. From what we could find, in 1939, the LDS Church thought their were about 803,000 members, and today their are an estimated 17 million throughout the world. We bring up 1939, as my grandfather-who was a very devout LDS member, paid the required $2.00 payment for a subscription fee for The Improvement Era, but we are unable to find even one, and I think I was the only "gatekeeper" for his records! Now what is the best thing to do? We have copied the receipt and not sure that my crystal ball is up to snuff, but it looks like the Era Director for the Nephi Stake was signed by Mrs. Theo Westring. If that is the case, I will forget the matter, as Theo helped me and his son-Jerry out of a bind. And so that is the end of this history story, and can't ask the church for copies as they quit printing The Improvement Era in1970.

A HUNDRED YEAR OLD SKIT WRITTEN BY LAVON HARRS ABOUT RURAL RUMORS

Prior to when LaVon Harris married Alma Jones, she was involved with a variety of things such as the County Fair; Church; 4-H; Booklore and Hats Club; skits; theater and was the go to gal to do a musical reading at funerals. This is the written skit recently located by her daughter-Jaynette Jones Grimard and she and I both chuckled at the participants. Only those of us that has wrinkled hands may get some of the names of the people she has written about or the places named, so we think it is all G-rated.  Have fun, and if you are a youngin, ask your grandma who the characters are or the places she talks about such as the Rainbow and no it is not a place the San Francisco Hippies hung out, but a place that hard working men of Nephi would crowd in and shoot a lot of bull, and didn't hit a one them. Then there is the Snak Shack; and the Nephi Cafe. One of the character's was a great LDS Seminary teacher by the UWANNA. If you are an old geezer like me, you may laugh until the dentures fall out.

DeVoe Lambert wasn't born a Nephite, but become one.

While going through the boxes of papers our family has kept and maintained, we came across this funeral program and thought it was meaningful to place it for all to see. As I stare at the photo of this kind and very intelligent human, I thought how interesting that we all are born to parents and family with big smiles as they have the cutest baby's in the world. Then when we die or pass through the veil, our family and friends are left behind to cry and sob, wondering how we are going to get along without us. DeVoe was born and raised in Roosevelt, but it wasn't long before he became a true Nephite as he met and married Afton Garrett, one of the cute girls of Rob and Erma Garrett. The program writes of him being schooled in Chemistry then taught it to students in college. They often came to Nephi to be with Afton's family, especially during the Third Ward Carnival and the Ute Stampede. After raising their kids, it wasn't long before they moved to Nephi. Whenever I visited with them, I sensed that DeVoe was one of those totally brilliant professors, and it wasn't until his funeral that I found out he was a tough guy as well, having a lot of expertise in football, but a Flyboy during World War Two. As they got older, I sensed the true kindest of Afton and her sisters Lucy Sanders and Corrine Garrett, as this once brilliant man had Dementia and from what I have seen, it is as tough on the caregivers as the person with it. Those that I have mentioned are now gone now, but DeVoe and his family are gifted children of God and they are made whole again. I couldn't help but place praise on each of those righteous people and all of the wonderful caregivers for people that need that help. We do have good and loving folks among us.

HAPPY HEAVENLY BIRTHDAY LAVON HARRIS JONES OF NEPHI

Yup, it is your the earthly anniversary of the day Evan and Eliza Hitesman had been waiting for. After having a herd of good strong boys that helped Ev cut down pine trees in a behind Nebo Canyon that was below the Ridge which the Forest Service named Evans Ridge after your Dad, they finally had an angel daughter, who was taken back to her Heavenly Home, and then you came along to complete their home. We don't count Gods time, but in earthly years, you would have been 114 years old and each of your kids can never forget that Nov 11th, 1994, when you were briefly let alone, so you could join your folks and others who were called home before you. And as you know Mom, each of us have carried on our promise to you that we would carry on our love for each other as we did for each other during our boxing gloves days when Alma made us put on to duke out our differences, and by the time Dad had tied the gloves on, we forgot what we were quarreling about and went back to following our daily chores you would post on the water heater each new week. And Dad was right, as we were never received an allowance for our chores, and good thing we didn't or none of your kids would have learned the old fashioned tradition of working for what we were given. Nor would three of your four boys could ever afford going on our missions and somehow you both made it work. You also taught us to only do three things which were to graduate from Juab High School; Vote and learn work ethics. We each did that, and tried to do the same with our own kids .And, on behalf of all the funeral talks you gave, thanks, and just remember...:If you and Dad walk down that path before your kids, we will be closely walk behind you, and with your words and Beyond The Sunset being heard by each of us. As always, we all continue to love and respect you. First row at far right-LaVon Harris. Nephi High.

I LOVE TO STUDY HISTORY, AS IT OFTEN REPEATS ITSELF FOR GOOD OR BAD

OF THE 980 BLOGS I HAVE PUT TOGETHER, ABOUT 980 ARE ABOUT THE IMPORTANE OF PRESERVING HISTORY, REGARDLESS OF IT BEING GOOD OR BAD, AS WE CANT CHANGE HISTORY, BUT PERHAPS FUTURE GENERATIONS MAY LEARN FROM IT. AS I HAVE WATCHED FACEBOOK AND SEEN HOW IT KEEPS CHANGES ON HOW OR WHAT I CAN WRITE IN MY STUDIES AND DECLARATIONS OF MY VIEWS OF HISTORY OF READING AND STUDYING IT, THEN OFTEN TRAVELING TO THE PLACES OF THE HISTORICAL EVENT, I WRITE MY THOUGHTS OF WHAT I FELT. THE FOLLOWING CARTOON WAS TAKEN FROM THE FACEBOOK AND  PLACED IT HERE, AS I AM IN DIRE STRAITS OF WHAT I FEAR FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR U S OF A. AND IT IS NOT JUST OUR COUNTRY, BUT HERE IN UTAH AND MY BELOVED HOME TOWN OF NEPHI  AND JUAB COUNTY, HAVING WORKED  FOR AND WITH VARIOUS GOVERMENTS-IN AND OUT OF AMERICA, I SEE OUR ONCE BELOVED LEADERS TURNING TO ONLY HELPING THEMSELVES RATHER THAN SERVING OUR FELLOW CITIZENS. I  PLACE THIS HERE WITH HOPE AND PRAYER THAT WE THE PEOPLE WILL STAND UP FOR WHAT AMERICA WAS FOR.......A GOD GIVEN LAND FOR US TO RESPECT AND LOVE. NO, THIS IS NOT A JOKE, BUT OUR SELECTIONS OF POLITICANS APPEAR TO BE THE JOKE OF JOKERS. I BID THEE GOD SPEED TO CHANGE

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY B. JONES OF NEPHI, UTAH

Yup, Gary has another birthday today. Seems like only yesterday, when you decided to keep Nephi as your home town, but wandered off throughout the world to see what existed on Gods green earth. You did well in High School; won about any Public Speaking contests in FFA; exemplary instructor at Camp Maple Dell Boy Scout Camp, and a shining light with your Eagle Scout Award along with Duty to God Award; continued to Serve God and Country on your LDS Mission to Australia and returning with honor, and a Era Vet in a foreign swamp called Viet Nam, and accelerated to the top in the US Army becoming a Ranger, and nobody grew up to be more mentally and physically equipped to jump out of a perfectly good plane; hide from human and animal to observe all, and teach others the keenness of what you taught yourself to live off the land. Then off to Alaska, the last Frontier which beckoned you to touch and experience, then join the National Guard and activated for the new war in the Middle East, which was a breeze to conquer like you could do most things you endeavored to do, including two Universities. The whole world was yours to explore, and then on to become and know. You were an expert in leading people from the lower 48 on how to fish and hunt and even obtained so many fish and animals, you sent loads back to your home town to help feed those in need of the good food our Heavenly Father provided for that sole purpose. Then at the age you could bask in the sunrise of the morning and the Northern Lights at night, you became a Musher in several Iditarod Races, as you loved the dogs who were more humans than people. You treated them right and they bestowed their love for you. You paid the airfare for many a niece and nephew to fly to the Last Frontier and let them taste of the Awe and Beauty of the Tundra. Having never married or having kids, your didn't stop for breakfast, brunch, lunch or chicken dinner,  but wrote and published inspirational books, of which many were sold in your home town of Nephi and placed in their library there. You then joined your siblings in the Over The Hill age, and found no time to sit in your TV Chair and watch reruns of the Lawrence Welk show, but  two young abandoned kids and took on the same role as your two perfect parents-Alma and LaVon Harris Jones and became their Guardian, and even helped Gary Jr. to learn the patient and grueling Musher of dogs. When you taught me that, I was wore out after a mile, but you endured and loved going the thousand mile distance. When it is time to heed the call that we all must follow, your gloves of life on earth will be laid to rest with the rest of your Forefathers at Vine Bluff and your Father of Fathers will welcome you to our Everlasting Home and all of Gods Creatures will await your arrival.....but not today....I need my Nap!

ITS 1935 AND YOU ARE IN NEPHI, WHAT IS THERE TO DO?

According to The Times News and a prior Blog entry we made, their was a ton of things to do in Nephi as we celebrate Blackhawk days to celebrate the last of the Utah Wars. It was also the first of  the Ute Stampede. Here you are.

THIS YOUNG COUPLE GOT HITCHED A FEW YEARS AGO AND THEY ARE STILL IN LOVE

LOVE SOMETIMES HAPPEN AND FOR THESE TWO KIDS ARE STILL IN LOVE AND LIKE EVEN MORE THAN THEY WERE BACK THEN.

ON THIS DAY SEVEN YEARS AGO, NEPHI BURIED A YOUNG GAL OF 'MAZING GRACE'

HAPPY HEAVENLY BIRTHDAY TO RON AND HAROLD BIRTHDAY

Some earthly born twins seem to have to do things the same way during their earthly actions during the short time they are given. That is the way the sons of one of the Nephi Edward Leonard Jones of Nortonville did. They were born as twins but always wanted to call each one as the first one to see Mt. Nebo with their God give eyes of earth. Then they both moved in to Nephi; both great supporters of the Ute Stampede Rodeo and both Grader operators for their living. Ron did it for Juab County and he then Bob Garrett was considered the perfect ones for that job, and those two helped Evan Blackett operate the night shift or there brother in law-Evan Blackett. Happy Birthday to two of the best Jones Boys this cousin ever knew.

ALBERTA BLACKETT JONES- A STRONG BUT LOVING MOTHER

All of the children of Vic and Alberta passed their earthly assignments and did so in a remarkable manner. They all grew up in the small home on the southeast corner of Main and 6th North in Nephi. She taught her kids good education at home, and all had their assignments' at home with the sheep and chickens and then when the boys came along, each one of them had there duties as well. And they all pitched in to help Vic's parents on their Nortonville, Utah farm. The daughters were intrigued with the importance of educations and followed a pursuit in that field of work. Richard was the oldest boy and liked to figure out how to keep their animal's in good health, so he got his start in following Spin Mac around to learn from his "Farm Doc" ways. A lot of those tricks did work well and Richard became an excellent Veterinary in Cache Valley, and was proud to do his own farming with his Shire horses. Son Gordon kept his farming instincts and passed them on to his kids, but also knew how to build rock solid homes. Prior to the death of Alberta, I had the opportunity to visit her at an unnamed hospital in Salt Lake. I felt bad for her as she was so cold she was shivering and not able to get anyone to help her, even after I asked. I went to where they kept extra blankets and brought one to her and stayed with her. I enjoyed my one on time with her. And son Sherm Jones was a delightful man that lived longer than most would think and always had that wide grin and good friends with Cotton Rosser when he came to town. There will be a time when we will all meet Vic, Alberta, Melba, Lenora, Barbara, Mildred, Darlene, Richard, Gordon and Sherm. All with Angelic Wings. BREAKING NEWS-LISA BLACKET DOING DANCING FANTASY

You may have already heard the rumors at Ray's Cafe; Snak Shack; Bobs Barber Shop or at The Serv, so let me try to bring some evidence to the surface. In the days of Grandma saying "Truth is always in the Pudding", but now a days they rely on more evidence, so we got the people that danced the truth and did it all well, and proof that Lisa Blackett is a Heroine of Hero's of Nephi, that we may have never given credit to, so we will today. Many of the listed little sweetheart's or grown up and we hope their loved ones pay tribute to those lucky enough to have their own Fantasy come true. Some of them danced so well, they have ascended to the Heavenly Clouds with Angelic Wings to enlighten and delight others, as they did during their mortal days on earth. When you get a moment, send a hand written note to Lisa, in the mail and give thanks to a local gal who has done much to bring glee to all of us. I still recall how much my mother called on Lisa to perform for the elderly when the Colonial Manor was the resting home for those folks that were older, but still humans that enjoyed free entertainment. A genuine thanks cousin, and yes, Nephi, Martha and Huck Jackson stands on high and proud of what you have done in a kind way for others in your hometown.

PHOTO OF WM. JONES JUST BEFORE HE DIED IN 1947 AT AGE 88

This is a photo of William Jones of Nephi, just before his death in 1947. He is the son of Edward and Martha Jackson Jones of Nephi, Utah. He married Elizabeth Tolley in 1885, which was a weeks travel to the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. In her journal, Liz reported the two weeks traveling in a horse and buggy was a "very delightful" trip. Together, they had bought most of the land when the Norton brothers gave it up as they were not used to the hard work. The Jones and Tolley family farmed it for several years and built two irrigation ponds, that are still visible from the hazardous freeway, cutting through some of the best farming ground around as well as the pure water from Mt. Nebo. Their children were Wm Loray (who died at four); Erma Jones Garrett; Eddie(who died three weeks later). Will Jones was then called on an LDS Mission back to the British Isles where his father and mother were born. Will's wife- Liz was pregnant with Vic Jones, but supported the "Calling From God" and left the Ranch to Will's brother-Edward(the second) and other great people of Nortonville. Wm. was then off to jolly ole England, without purse, but did take a small Book of Mormon and two Journals with him. He would often stay with family members that remained in the British Isles-who also fetched food and bed for he and Elder McPherson from Nephi. Liz Jones moved in with her mother-Sarah Warren Tolley, which house is still standing by the old Hollow on Nephi Main Street, until Vic was born in 1893. When William returned from his mission, and took up ranching again in Nortonville, along came Dell, Pearl(Ockey), Grant, Alma, Bert and Norma(Kay). To us Jones kids, we loved and cherished any time we could visit our Uncles and Aunts and their kids and the kids children, as Alma and LaVon didn't hook up their wedding wagon til later in life, so the Jones kids came along about every ten months when Alma, the Cash man-came home from World War Two. Blame it on the good water of Nortonville. The photo shows Wm. Jones standing by the Jones Family home on 7th North and Main, standing by the wooden fence surrounding the once quite and peaceful homestead, waiting for the Mailman, who came twice a day to Deliver De Letter De Sooner De Better.

PHOTO OF THE NEPHI ALMA & LAVON HARRIS JONES FAMILY OF 40 PLUS YEARS AGO

I am not sure of who they all are, so hopefully some of my siblings will add them. I do know it was around Christmas time and after Weston, Hal and Gary were re-directed to join their American Brothers to serve in some far off Country called Nam, which they didn't teach us about in School, but that was Par for the Course of Lessons For Life we didn't know much about, but we pretended we knew more than our great folks. Our Dad was an Army Medic Veteran, but said their were more soldiers  killed or hurt during training when Bombers were dropping sacks of flour on their own comrades, while mothers and kids were hungry at home. Both folks knew the Potential of losing sons and brothers as Uncle Vic Jones got his hip shot up during World War One and another brother-Uncle Dell Jones would see the same catastrophic injuries in "The War To End All World Wars" in World War One as did LaVon's brothers Uncle Ren and Uncle Vic Harris, both Nephi Boys who answered the Call of Duty. And there was a time when they had two grandsons join up and one still serving. When does General Evil quit? Perhaps it is when we all get along with our neighbors. You know, the ones who mix peas with corn!!! What is this world coming to?
