Alma C Jones Trek 2005

You know you're NOT from Juab County.....if you recognize this photo, but hang on, there is a connection. The photo is of Pioche, Nevada in 1882. That was a wild mining town with their supplies coming from Nephi, Utah. One of the many mule skinners hauling goods there was Nortonville brothers Wm. and Edward Jones. The attached road trip will show the agenda for several of the Jones descendants who traveled to Pioche for a family get together nine years ago. The story pasted down was that when the first Jones boys went there, they left as soon as possible, as there were more murders and quick hangings than Dodge City and Tombstone put together. Still visible is the boothill name of Morgan Courtney who was shot in the back by George MeKinney in 1873. The weathered words read "feared by some; respected by few; detested by others; shot in back; 5 times; from ambush". Now back to the photo...check closely in the bottom left side to see the gallows. Now you known Pioche and its Nephi connection. Wm. Jones watched one hanging, and that was enough to stay in Juab County.
