Nephi's thousand mile sled dog racer

The Iditarod starts tomorrow morning-March 9, 2014. It is in Alaska, but there is a Nephi connection. One of the mushers that has completed the 1,049 mile race was born and raised in Nephi, Utah. Once G.B. Jones moved to Alaska, he has been a musher ever since. In the lower forty-eight states, the media tells the viewers what they should like or not like, but in Alaska outside of hunting and fishing, the Iditarod is the sport, as it puts humans working in harmony with dogs who love to pull sleds. Jones is not racing this year, but the guy he taught is, so it seems appropriate to support Charley Bejna in "The Last Great Race On Earth".  G.B. Jones so loves the Iditarod he wrote a book about it. In addition, one of his dogs who made it to Nome is Nick, and on that dog's retirement, he was shipped off to his all expenses retirement home in Nephi, where this time of year, Nick starts pawing at the ground, wanting to get started along the thousand mile journey of ice, snow, mud, and the bonding of the musher.
