We now have the simple paper clips and staples, but way back when during the 1880, we would tear the top of the paper and fold over, or use pins to put papers together.
In going through some boxes that appear to be dated in the 1880's, staples and paper clips must not have been invented yet, as I have been coming across a lot of articles and papers that are "pinned" together, using a regular type sstiching pin, such as the one show. I put the other present day clips on the scanner to see the simple changes for the better. The small pin is at the bottom of the paper to hold the small piece on it.
